Travel Trend Watch: Europe for Less

(Photos courtesy of Shutterstock)

The U.S. dollar is very strong right now, which makes it a very good time to travel to Europe. With the help of President George Hobica, the Tingo team has put together some of our best money-saving tips for traveling to Europe.

Airfare Tips

  • Choose your dates wisely. Airfares to Europe are still high, despite the plunge in oil prices. We've seen some better travel deals for dates before mid-June and after mid-August. However, it's good to know that there is no best time of day or week to find a flight deal.
  • Sign up for airfare alerts. You can be the first to know of great airfare deals by signing up for airfare alerts by email and by following airlines and other travel sites on Twitter.

Top Holiday Destinations

With the winter holiday season approaching, it's time to start preparing for the colder months—and hopefully for your winter vacation! Some travelers like to spend the winter months enjoying the snowflakes and winter fun, while others prefer to soak up as much sun as possible, even if that means leaving home to do so. We've selected a few of our favorite winter destinations with both types of travelers in mind.

Denver, Colorado

There's no doubt about it: Colorado is ski country. As soon as snow hits the ground, skiers and snowboarders rejoice and hit the slopes. But if you're not a skier or snowboarder, don't fret—there are plenty of other activities in Denver, which makes it the perfect winter destination for all. The city is scattered with skating rinks, some of which are free to use! Throughout November and December, the city hosts several beautiful lighting displays that are sure to get you in the holiday spirit. If you'd rather warm up indoors, a couple of museums (including the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and the Denver Art Museum) offer admission-free days. Check out Denver hotels on Tingo here.

9 Ways to Save on Summer Travel

(Photos courtesy of Shutterstock)

The expensive summer travel season is almost here! Whether you're going on an international voyage or a weekend road trip, it's important to keep your trip stress-free and your budget intact. We have some tips to help you save money on your vacation.

  1. Sign up for airfare alerts. Sites like Airfarewatchdog will notify you of dirt-cheap fares so you don't have to go looking for them yourself. Airfarewatchdog employs a team of experts that scour the web for the best fares, and they're notorious for uncovering "hidden" sales that aren't advertised. Unlike most fare-alert services, the site includes fares from Southwest and Allegiant.
  2. Choose a smaller airport. You can often find a better airfare deal if you fly out of a regional airport instead of a major international one.
  3. Pack a carry-on bag instead. Baggage fees have gotten outrageous. Instead of paying the fee to check a bag, pack lightly and cram everything into a carry-on bag. You'll save money and you'll save time at the airport.
