Fall is the perfect time to explore new cities and enjoy the changing scenery. Turning leaves, hot apple cider, sweater weather: We love it all. Here are our top suggestions for how to enjoy the crisp weather in some of our favorite locations:

Newport, RI— Just 20 minutes away from beautiful Newport, Escobar's Highland Farm in Portsmouth, RI as a fall activity for everyone. Hayrides and pumpkin patches make for perfect fall fun, and if you're feeling a little more adventurous, this year's Corn Maze features eight acres of twists and turns. Don't worry, they'll rescue you if need be.

Accommodations: Located in Newport's Historic District, the Pelham Court Hotel is perfect for your Newport stay. Explore the Tennis Hall of Fame or take a leisurely stroll along the Cliff Walk to spot beautiful mansions.

Travel Trend Watch: Unique Hotel Freebies

In the past, we've complained about annoying fees that hotels sometimes charge. This time around, we're celebrating a few special hotels that offer really cool freebies to their guests.

  • Goldfish—The Soho Grand Hotel in New York City will provide a goldfish pal to keep you company for the duration of your stay. This trend is becoming increasingly popular among other hotels, too.
  • Bike Rentals—Vancouver's Opus Hotel has mountain bikes available for free rental. The bikes are first come, first served, though, so if you plan to tour the city on a set of wheels, make sure you request your rental in advance!

The Library Hotel: A Literary Delight

The Library Hotel in New York City is a dream for those who can appreciate a good read. Interestingly enough, the setup of this hotel is based on the Dewey Decimal System. Each floor is dedicated to one of the system's major categories, and each individual room is based on a subcategory. The books in each room match its category designation—it's an interesting and unique way to design a hotel! For example, the third floor is the Social Sciences floor, and guest room 300.003 contains books focused on Economics.

The Empire Hotel: Quintessential New York

If you are planning a summer getaway, New York City is one of the best places to visit. And we know of the perfect place to stay—The Empire Hotel. The hotel is in a great location for sightseeing and touristy activities, but it also offers amazing experiences of its own:

  • Suites: The standard guestrooms offer views of Central Park and Broadway. The rooms are also dog-friendly (if your pooch weighs less than 25 pounds).
  • Rooftop Pool Deck: Surround yourself with perfect views of the city while you cool off in the rooftop pool. Food and cocktail service is available—we recommend the snow cones!
