For the ultimate haunted Halloween, you must visit Salem, MA. Travelers flock from all over to visit Salem for the biggest Halloween party in America. Spooky Salem hosts haunted houses, historic landmarks, plenty of hotels and B&Bs, great restaurants, ghost tours, and a variety of other Halloween happenings.

One of our favorite Salem attractions is the House of the Seven Gables. It's the oldest surviving 17th-century mansion in New England, and it inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel—not to mention admission is free! The Peabody Essex Museum is fascinating as well, and the Salem Witch Trials Memorial is a fitting tribute to visit especially during the Halloween season.

After you check out some of the sites, we suggest attending Tales and Ales, a Halloween special that takes place on various evenings throughout October. It's an evening of ghost stories along with free samplings of local ales. But tickets sell out quickly, so make sure you make reservations ahead of time! If that doesn't work out, definitely grab a bite to eat at Nathaniel's at Hawthorne Hotel—it's perfect for an authentic taste of New England.

Salem is a great day trip, and we recommend staying in nearby Boston. It's about 40 minutes from Salem, and Tingo has hundreds of hotels in the area to choose from.
